Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson : 2014
Paris of the North
Hugi is a teacher in a small and remote village in the east of Iceland. He is quite content by himself among the mountains, which surround the quiet village where hardly anyone walks the streets. He attends AA meetings, learns Portuguese and enjoys a life of idleness. But has he withdrawn too far? When Hugi receives a phone call from his estranged father announcing his arrival, he is not too pleased. But after consulting with his AA-sponsor, Hugi decides to welcome him. Something he will immediately regret. Told without emphasising the dramatic conflict, the film relates the tale of a recovering alcoholic, his largely estranged father, and their incompatible cohabitation. Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson's second feature premiered in competition at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2014.
